The backstage reaction in AEW to Ace Steel’s firing has been revealed.
The ramifications of the AEW All Out backstage fight between CM Punk and The Elite is still being felt throughout the entire company.
As previously reported, Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer revealed that Ace Steel was released from the promotion this week in a major sign of movement in the situation.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update on the backstage reaction to Steel’s firing, noting that much of the roster had remained quiet since the All Out situation and especially after the talent meeting led by Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson.
However, after word emerged of Ace Steel finally being let go, talent and staff were more willing to talk.
The unanimous consensus was that the move was expected and would have been done the week of the All Out incident if not for the legal ramifications.
By the following week’s television tapings, most in the company believed “they were effectively done working with Ace Steel”.
The report also notes:
“Another longtime talent that had been on good terms with Ace Steel said that the writing was on the wall immediately after that situation when the bite marks on Kenny Omega were still visible. Omega carried the bite marks with him the whole next week through a trip to Japan as well.”
The release of Steel follows CM Punk appearing in a ROH World Title video package and The Elite being mentioned for the first time on commentary during the October 18 edition of AEW Dynamite.
We will have further updates on the Brawl Out situation when they become available.
