AEW Stars’ Anonymous Reactions To ‘Banned Moves’ List Revealed AEW

The backstage reaction from a major star and other voices to the recently reported AEW “banned moves” list has been revealed.

As previously reported by Fightful, a document was sent out within AEW listing the protocols that were developed by the AEW medical team, coaches, and referees in order to protect talent, staff, crew, and fans.

The list included some things that were outright banned, but more things that need pre-approval before being done during matches.

With a recent report that some AEW stars were unaware of the list until the news emerged, Dave Meltzer has now provided further details of the backstage reaction.

In the current Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote:

The belief from one wrestler is that they think that unless somebody just outright defies the rules and flaunts it, that a violation in the moment of excitement might lead to a minor fine.

Another noted the banned moves listed are the same moves banned for years, that is was just put down on paper and reiterated and they may be enforced more closely. As far as eliminating fake seizures (done once in company history) or spitting on a wrestler (which nobody will notice is gone), that won’t make any difference.

One person noted the hope that there will be less repeated spots on a show, noting they’ve tried that because at the Las Vegas PPV because Anarchy in the Arena was going to be a bloodbath, that nobody else on the show was supposed to bleed.

Another major star told us, “The new rules have great intentions but it remains to be seen how well they work. I’d say for the most part, no big move, highflying, driver, or other otherwise has led to any injuries on the roster. The vast majority have been fluke accidents that could have happened to anyone. Avoiding repeat spots and getting permission for blood or hardcore items/spots are the big ones that need to be enforced so we’ll see how it turns out.”

Per the previous report, the document said that providing the necessary parties with notice in order to plan ‘creative stunts and spots’ is helpful, as that way they can be planned to be done as safely as possible.

Talent have also been encouraged to speak to coaches, talent relations, the medical team, or legal as soon as possible for things that would require planning.

Tony Khan has since addressed the list, referring to it as “really more guidelines for the referees.”
