AEW’s Cash Wheeler Opens Up On Opinion Of Athleticism & Top NJPW Star AEW

AEW’s Cash Wheeler has opened up with this thoughts about a top NJPW star he feels has “evolved” in the ring.

In an interview with WhatCulture Wrestling, the FTR member spoke about the preference of story-telling in wrestling over more “athletic” styles of wrestling.

Wheeler appreciated that it’s all subjective, but also reflected on the athleticism on show, saying:

“The athleticism the generation has now is better than it has ever been, but then you have guys that never evolve past that.”

One wrestler who Wheeler feels has evolved is NJPW’s Will Ospreay, with Wheeler stating:

“And then you have guys like Will Ospreay who learned that he doesn’t have to do everything all the time, even though he’s one of the most gifted athletes in the world.

“When he started realizing how to tell all the stories he wanted to do and getting those moments and those emotions, he gets more reactions now from just doing something and standing there and looking at the crowd, than he ever would have to do it as opposed to a 630, or something to the outside.”

He would conclude by discussing Vikingo and Komander, giving advice to high fliers who might want to emulate their success, adding:

“I love watching Vikingo and Komander, for instance, last night at Supercard of Honor

“But man, those guys are going to do those things, and they’re a different class than everybody else. And if you can’t do those things to that level, you better find something else, because if the fans don’t take to you and you’re doing things second rate?”

Will Ospreay is currently under contract with NJPW until February 2024 and has recently addressed the upcoming contract negotiations.

He is set to face Matt Cardona when 1PW returns to Lincoln, England on June 10 2023.

In April 2023, FTR returned to AEW and discussed their reasoning behind re-signing with Tony Khan over WWE.
