On tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite (May 31) a big championship bout is set for next week on AEW Dynamite (June 7).
Announced on the show and on Twitter by Tony Khan himself, a big International Championship title opportunity after a match saw plenty of hard hitting action on tonight’s Dynamite.
Next week’s episode is set to feature Orange Cassidy defending his AEW International Championship against Swerve Strickland.
On tonight’s Dynamite, Orange Cassidy teamed with Darby Allin to take on the Embassy’s Gates of Agony.
However after the match when Swerve and the rest of the Embassy were at ringside, a familiar face joined Cassidy and Allin to even the odds.
It was Sting!
Sting made his return to AEW television as he came to the ring to provide some back up as the Embassy retreated.
Later in the episode, it was confirmed that next week would see a re-match of the final two in the AEW Double or Nothing Battle Royal when Orange Cassidy defends his International Championship against Swerve Strickland on AEW Dynamite.
Could this finally mark the end of Orange Cassidy’s historic title reign with a record number of defenses in AEW?
The increased television time for the Mogul Embassy on tonight’s AEW Dynamite and the positive reception for Swerve vs Orange at AEW Double Or Nothing could certainly point in that direction.
Orange Cassidy remains a popular champion however part of his story remains that he is tiring as the International Champion after 23 successful defenses since taking the title, and Swerve is definitely a prominent and popular enough member of the roster to be the man that beats him after all this time with that in mind.
Elsewhere on tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan made a huge announcement about the upcoming show, AEW Collision.
