On tonight’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view (June 25), there was a heel turn after one championship match.
After SANADA retained his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship over Jungle Boy Jack Perry, Perry initially walked away from the ring alongside his recent tag partner, HOOK.
However as they got nearer the top of the entrance ramp, as HOOK went to raise Perry’s arm, instead Jungle Boy Jack Perry clotheslined HOOK on the ramp, knocking him and his FTW Championship to the ground.
After briefly holding up the FTW as to signal he was coming after HOOK, Jungle Boy Jack Perry taunted the crowd before exiting through the left tunnel (the heel side).
This paved the way nicely for a swap in commentators as HOOK’s father Taz left his station on the desk, ushering in Tony Schiavone for the second half of the pay-per-view.
Elsewhere slated for tonight’s pay-per-view, huge matches between Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada, and Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay as some of AEW’s biggest stars face off against NJPW’s best.
In the night’s opening bout, MJF retained the AEW World Championship after sending out a hilarious scheduled tweet mid-match.
