Former AEW Star Reveals Whether He Would Return AEW

A former AEW star has spoken about their current career and whether or not they would return to the company after their 2022 departure.

Joey Janela left AEW in May 2022 and, since then, he has been critical of AEW’s product on occasion.

The Bad Boy had also previously revealed that, following an incident with Eddie Kingston, AEW management had “stopped speaking” to him.

During a live stream autograph signing for K&S WrestleFest, Janela would reflect on the heat that would lead to his departure, saying:

“I was set to re-sign, and then I think I superkicked Eddie [Kingston] in the face a little bit too hard and broke his eye socket.

“I think he was going to feud with Chris Jericho, and then there was a little heat on me there. I was just like, ‘I’m not dealing with it again.’

“So, I just hit up DDT in Japan that day and said, ‘I’m not gonna re-sign.’ That day they sent me a tour.”

Janela has done five tours of Japan since his AEW departure and is a regular at GCW.

He did, however, give his thoughts on a potential return to Tony Khan’s company, stating:

“Never say never — me coming back there.

“I still have friends there, but right now I’m content with what I’m doing.”

Janela has been outspoken about AEW programming in the past, claiming that AEW Dark “isn’t Tony’s priority” and is just a tool to pad out the win/loss record.

In May 2022, Janela would be involved in a fire spot during a GCW match that Booker T would call “the stupidest thing” he’s ever seen in his career.
