Mercedes Mone, the artist formerly known as WWE’s Sasha Banks, is seemingly AEW-bound and will make her debut on March 13, 2024.
AEW Big Business was Tony Khan’s big announcement on the February 8 episode of Dynamite, with reporting stating it would be Mone’s debut.
More details have now emerged from Fightful Select which states that Mone “has been on the company’s payroll since at least early January.”
It had previously been reported that talks between Mone and WWE had fallen apart in late December 2023.
Fightful Select reiterated that both sides were unable to come to terms, which was similar to previous talks between Mone and AEW.
The report goes on to state that “there was consideration to announcing or debuting” Mone but “the decision to pass on that for the TD Garden was set.”
It was also noted that both last night’s announcement and the March 13 show “have been set for several weeks” with Boston being Mone’s hometown.
The report concludes by stating that Mone was “nowhere near being ready in the ring” to have made a debut as far back as AEW Grand Slam in September 2023.
NJPW sources have also verified her ring-readiness, with it further being noted that “Mercedes was not cleared and had not actually resumed training” at that point.
Training footage that she had posted on social media was reported to be “older footage”.
Mone was injured during her match with Willow Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence in 2023 for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.
In November 2023, she stated that fans should “expect (her) to return with some wrestling company in 2024.”
Fightful states that NJPW sources “do expect to have the ability to continue to work with Mone” with plans going forward being “discussed”.
Following the announcement of AEW Big Business, Mercedes Mone made a statement of her own on social media.
