Retired AEW Name Wants One More Match

Retired AEW Name Wants One More Match AEW

AEW commentator Jim Ross has commented on the possibility of Nigel McGuinness lacing up his boots one more time.

McGuinness hasn’t competed in the ring since December 2011 at APWA 3rd Annual Holiday Grand Prix during his retirement tour.

His career would see him undertake multiple runs in Ring of Honor as well as spend time in TNA Wrestling, though he never competed in the WWE ring.

He would announce his retirement and the Nigel McGuinness Retirement Tour in 2011 having never wrestled in a WWE ring.

WWE would sign McGuinness in 2016, joining the company as a commentator until his release in October 2022.

He would sign with AEW in April 2023 and serves on the commentary team for Collision alongside Kevin Kelly and Jim Ross.

Ross recently addressed the potential of a return match for McGuiness on Grilling JR, saying:

“I enjoy working with Kevin Kelly and Nigel. Nigel’s getting really good. Not that Kevin isn’t but Nigel is kind of a newcomer in that world and he’s doing a great job. I enjoy working with him. He’s fun, he’s a good guy.

“I know he wants to have one more match somewhere down the road and I hope he gets it. I saw online the other day Connie, where Bryan Danielson said he and Nigel would be a hell of a match at Wembley (ALL IN).”

Danielson had discussed the possibility of a match with McGuinness, hoping for Wembley Stadium as the venue.

As previously noted, Danielson and McGuinness have not shared the ring since their final ROH match in September of 2009 at Glory By Honor, where Danielson was the victor.

As for McGuinness, he spends a considerable amount of time ripping into Danielson on commentary.

Kevin Kelly has recently praised McGuinness for his improvement since his days on the ROH commentary team.
