AEW Star Reaches Historic Championship Milestone

An AEW star has reached a historic milestone when it comes to their ongoing championship reign in Ring of Honor.

As of September 5, Athena has been the ROH Women’s World Champion for close to three years, having taken the title from Mercedes Martinez at Final Battle.

With that show taking place on December 10, 2022, Athena has now reached 1,000 days as ROH Women’s World Champion.

Her championship reign far eclipses the second-longest reigning champion, with her predecessor managing 220 days.

Athena’s lengthy championship reign is close to double that of Mercedes Mone, the current TBS Champion, with the pair having met during the Owen Hart Foundation 2025 Tournament.

Reacting to the match on the April 16 episode of AEW Dynamite, Mone called it a “dream come true“.

Mone is fast approaching Jade Cargill’s 508-day reign as TBS Champion, with Athena set to reach double that figure in mere days.

Athena was last in action, defending her championship at ROH Death Before Dishonor, defeating Mina Shirakawa on the August 29 pay-per-view.

Her last AEW appearance saw a loss to AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm at Forbidden Door.

Athena made her AEW debut in May 2022 at that year’s Double or Nothing, having been released by WWE in November 2021.
