Events in the AEW Dynamite Blood and Guts match have led to the main event of ROH Death Before Dishonor on Friday, July 21, 2023.

During the match, among all the chaos, Pac and Claudio Castagnoli got into a confrontation that would lead to Pac abandoning the Blackpool Combat Club.

This would set up the main event, as revealed by Tony Khan on Twitter, for ROH Death Before Dishonor this Friday.

With the ROH World Championship on the line, Castagnoli will face Pac in Trenton, New Jersey.

Dave Meltzer has now revealed how this match came to be on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:

“That’s very short notice, but Tony Khan went through the whole thing. The original opponent was Eddie Kingston, and then it was Mark Briscoe, and then this is how it ended up because Mark Briscoe was hurting way worse than he had let on and finally had to admit he was hurting really bad and needed time off.

“Eddie Kingston asked to go to G1 and Tony said that he didn’t want to get in his way and New Japan wanted him in G1. But Eddie Kingston was the original opponent for this show.”

A four-way match for the ROH World Tag Team Titles was recently announced, revealing that Mark Davis had recovered from injury and would be teaming with Kyle Fletcher as Aussie Open.
