Just a couple of months ago, AJ Styles’ WWE Championship reign would seemingly never end, but Daniel Bryan’s shock heel turn and championship victory put an end to that. Since then, speculation has been rampant as to who could be challenging both Bryan and Styles at the biggest show of the year. There’s now been new reports to suggest who would be challenging the latter of the two.
It was noted recently on Barnburner’s No Holds Barred Podcast that the current plan for AJ Styles is to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 35 next April. The pair haven’t faced off at a pay-per-view before, so in a sense, this is a fresh rivalry.
If Orton brings his A-game, along with the fire and intensity he is capable, this could legitimately be a great feud. It all depends on the story being told, but if ‘The Viper’ brings the vicious, sadistic side of him, AJ can bump and sell like a madman for it. Depending how this story is built, it could be a show-stealer, but only time will tell.
It was not mentioned whether this feud would be for the WWE Championship or not, which doesn’t reveal any clues to the outcome of Styles’ rematch with Bryan this Sunday at TLC.
As an aside, the No Holds Barred Podcast has a decent record when reporting backstage rumors and plans, but regardless, cards are always subject to change, so it may be best to take this with a pinch of salt for now.
