Andrade El Idolo WWE Update Following AEW Departure AEW

An update has been provided on Andrade El Idolo’s WWE status following his AEW departure following Worlds End.

At AEW Worlds End, Miro defeated Andrade El Idolo after Andrade’s manager and Miro’s wife CJ Perry turned on El Idolo.

Following the show at the media scrum, Tony Khan confirmed reports prior to the event that Andrade was finishing up with All Elite Wrestling after the event. This announcement came as a surprise to some as reports had indicated that El Idolo’s deal didn’t expire until sometime in 2024.

Fightful Select has provided an update, noting that Andrade El Idolo is officially done with AEW and has an agreement with WWE. Andrade’s original deal with AEW was for two years, but injury time was added that extended it until the end of the year.

AEW stars stated that Andrade was often very open about his contract status and that his deal was up in or at the end of 2023.

The report notes that numerous talent said El Idolo had mentioned he would stay with AEW and was considering another promotion, but by the end of 2023, he had told other wrestlers that he was heading back to WWE.

Many within AEW believed that they would see Andrade El Idolo on WWE programming the week after he left the company.

Tony Khan publicly left the door open for Andrade’s return, but several that worked near Andrade in his final months said that it was a frustrating process. It was only days before AEW Worlds End that Andrade informed the company that he was finishing up his deal.

The report also notes that Charlotte Flair had pushed for an Andrade return in WWE, while El Idolo pushed for Ric Flair to come to AEW, which they did in 2023.

WWE sources have not confirmed the rumors that Andrade El Idolo was returning to the company, but others immediately admitted that it was likely Andrade was heading there.

WrestleTalk will provide further updates on Andrade El Idolo’s WWE status following his AEW departure when they become available.
