Planned Appearance Scrapped Due To ‘Not Wanting To Tease’ CM Punk AEW

IMPACT Wrestling held it’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view event last night (October 21).

The show featured the annual Call Your Shot Gauntlet, which featured several surprise appearances, including Juventud Guerrera, Matt Cardona and former AEW star Sonny Kiss.

It was reported prior to the show that IMPACT was bringing in Ace Steel for the show, with him set to have a tryout in a producer role following his departure from AEW.

However, per PWInsider, he almost had an even bigger role on the show, and it was due to his connection to CM Punk that it didn’t happen.

PWInsider notes that there was some talk in IMPACT of using Steel as a surprise in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet last night, which obviously didn’t end up happening.

One of the reasons Steel never appeared is due to concerns that his appearance could potentially lead fans live to believe it was a tease that CM Punk was coming in, and the company didn’t want to accidentally tease something that wasn’t happening.

CM Punk was obviously in Chicago yesterday, but he was present at the Chicago Blackhawks game, even appearing in a vignette before the game.

Last night’s show ended with the big announcement that IMPACT Wrestling would be no more, with the company set to return to it’s old TNA name in January 2024.
