WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has made a bold claim about the eventual end of his title reign.
GUNTHER is one of the most dominant champions in the history of the Intercontinental Title, with his current reign being the longest single run with the gold since the Honky Tonk Man’s record reign which began in 1987.
He most recently defended the gold at WrestleMania 39, defeating Sheamus and Drew McIntyre in a three-way bout.
Following this bout, there has been a lot of speculation about GUNTHER’s reign, with fans attempting to predict the star who will dethrone the Ring General.
Speaking with Ryan Satin for FOX Sports, GUNTHER teased that the man who will take his Intercontinental Championship isn’t currently on the WWE main roster.
When asked what’s next, GUNTHER replied:
“That we shall see. (WrestleMania) was my focus, let’s see what happens on SmackDown. I guess I’ll see who is next in line. I’m fairly confident.
“I’m not sure if the man who is going to be able to beat me if he’s arrived here already. Everybody go out and find him.”
GUNTHER dominated the independent scene as WALTER ahead of his WWE debut in January 2019 at the NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool event, so these comments have fuelled speculation that the Austrian will soon reignite a feud with an old rival.
Some fans have also predicted that NXT star Ilja Dragunov will be the man to take down GUNTHER.
Dragunov notably defeated the popular star for the NXT UK Championship at TakeOver 36 in August 2021, ending GUNTHER’s 870 day reign.
