Austin Theory Hits Huge WWE Milestone As US Champion WWE

WWE star Austin Theory has now reached a huge milestone amid his United States Championship reign.

Theory won the US Title in November 2022 at the Survivor Series WarGames event, taking the gold from Seth Rollins in a threeway bout also featuring Bobby Lashley.

The rising star has defended the gold against a number of top names, including John Cena, who he defeated in the opening match of WrestleMania 39.

As of Wednesday (July 5), Theory has been champion for 221 days.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has pointed out that Theory’s reign with the US Title is now the longest since Jon Moxley’s (fka Dean Ambrose) 351 day stint with the gold.

Ambrose notably won the title from Kofi Kingston at the May 2013 Extreme Rules event, over ten years ago.

This title reign was ended by Sheamus, who won the gold when Ambrose was forced to defend the title in a 20-man battle royal on the May 5, 2014 episode of Raw.

Moxley’s reign is recognised as the third longest in the title’s history, behind Rick Rude’s 378 day stint, and Lex Luger’s 522 days with the gold.

Theory is not the fourth longest reigning US Champion however, as a number of stars before Moxley held the title for longer than Theory’s current reign, including current WWE stars Shelton Benjamin and MVP.

Theory is not the only singles WWE champion who has hit major milestones, with GUNTHER celebrated as the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st century, and Roman Reigns holding the Universal Title for over 1000 days.
