Bron Breakker and his father Rick Steiner have commented on the decision for the NXT Champion to not use the ‘Steiner’ surname.
Following Breakker’s WWE in-ring debut in September 2021, many criticised the company for not explicitly presenting the star as part of the Steiner family.
While it has since been established on NXT TV that Breakker is the son of a Hall of Famer, Breakker is still referred to as a ‘Breakker’ rather than a ‘Steiner’.
Bron Breakker and Rick Steiner discussed the decision behind Breakker’s naming on Table For 3:
Steiner “I know (WWE) came up with Bron Breakker. Why not like Bron Steiner? Why, like, who comes up with that?”
Breakker: “I kind of came up with it from football and just playing football I tried to hurt people or break people in half when I was blocking. That’s kind of how I came up with the name and I don’t feel like we need to use the (Steiner) name for me to be successful. I mean, I think I should, just go my own, go my own route and pay tribute to (The Steiner Brothers.)”
Breakker is a two-time NXT Champion, recently unifying the gold with the NXT UK Title at Worlds Collide earlier this month.
