Chris Jericho Reveals Why He Signed With AEW AEW

Chris Jericho’s decision to sign with AEW was a momentous moment and now The Ocho has revealed his thinking behind the decision.

Jericho signed his AEW contract in January 2019 and has gone on to be a pivotal figure in and outside of the ring.

He recently signed a new contract with the company, tying him to Tony Khan’s organisation until January 2026.

The new deal has seen him take on more behind-the-scenes responsibilities, too, including producer, creative advisor and mentor.

Recently, Jericho was a guest on ESPN’s Sedano & Cap show and discussed his decision to sign with AEW in the first place.

Although he wasn’t initially attracted to the idea of a wealthy businessman wanting to get into the wrestling business, this changed when he got to know Tony Khan better.

Jericho said:

“Do you realize how much money it costs to start a wrestling company?

“Do you realize how hard it is to find fresh, exciting talent that hasn’t been around the block?

“Do you realize how hard it is to get a television deal with a network?

“Tony Khan did realize that, and after talking to him I thought, ‘Wow, there might actually be something to this,’ and that’s kind of what really started attracting me to it.”

Seeing the benefits of working with AEW over a return to WWE from a personal, business and creative standpoint, Jericho reflected:

“That really appealed to me to start working with Tony because I knew if AEW was a success, we could change the course of wrestling history.”

With Ring of Honor now under Tony Khan’s ownership and more opportunities for Jericho, as the current ROH World Champion, to change the course of wrestling history, he has a huge match ahead of him as the company approaches AEW Full Gear on November 19, 2022.
