CM Punk Breaks Silence About Issues With Hangman Page, Was Worried Page Would Intentionally Try To Hurt Him AEW

CM Punk has broken his silence about the issues between himself and Hangman Page ahead of All Out last year.

The issue is believed to have started when Page went off-script during a promo leading to their AEW World Championship match at Double Or Nothing last year.

Page’s reason for doing so was because he believed Punk had tried to get Colt Cabana out of AEW, which Punk and Tony Khan have both denied.

In a new interview with ESPN, Punk has spoken about the match, saying he even considered not doing it because he was concerned about the possibility of Page trying to legitimately hurt him.

Punk said:

“And I proceed to have what I think is a garbage match because I’m trying to protect myself on stuff instead of actually just working and trying to put on the best performance I can.

“I’m keeping an eye out. He chopped me in the mouth one time, and I’m just like, ‘OK, did you do that on purpose?’ You chip my tooth, and I’m like, ‘All right, should I give him a receipt?’

“It changes the dynamic. It poisoned everything for me, and it made it all really, really ugly, and that was what set all of this off, and here we are over a year later and ain’t s**t been done about it.”

Punk said his relationship with Page and the rest of the Elite had been a solid one previously, with Punk even checking in on Page when Page had COVID-19.

Punk will make his return to AEW on June 17 for the debut of Collision, but has not spoken to Page, Kenny Omega or the Young Bucks about their issues because he’s been told he’s not allowed to, and they’re expected to be kept completely separate from him.

None of those names, nor Tony Khan, were “available to comment” for ESPN’s article.

Before this interview was released, it was reported that some people in AEW had heard about what Punk had said and it “hadn’t gone down well”, and AEW was trying to do some “damage control” to make sure things weren’t too bad since the promotion is currently trying to sign Page to a new contract.
