AEW World Champion CM Punk has been out with an injury since June, when he injured his foot on Dynamite.
In Punk’s absence, an interim AEW World Champion was crowned, when Jon Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event of the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
In the main event of tonight’s AEW Dynamite Quake By The Lake show, Jon Moxley retained his championship against Chris Jericho in a brutal main event, before he was ambushed by the entire Jericho Appreciation Society.
The Blackpool Combat Club made the save, before CM Punk made his return and helped fight off the JAS, before getting into the face of the interim champion.
Moxley then flipped off Punk and left with the BCC members, seemingly setting up the huge main event for All Out.
If you’re in the UK but didn’t manage to get tickets to Clash at the Castle on September 3, WrestleTalk is hosting a watch party at The Joiner on Worship in Shoreditch, London, and we’d love for you to join us! Click here for more details.
