Cody’s first NWA Championship defense announced

Cody has his first NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship defense set for the upcoming Ring of Honor television tapings.

Cody will defend his newly won championship against Willie Mack at the September 29 Ring of Honor tapings, one day after the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event.

The ‘American Nightmare’ is also scheduled to defend his championship at the NWA 70th Anniversary show on October 21 in Nashville, Tennessee against former champion Nick Aldis.

It is currently unknown which match will air first as ROH usually tapes four episodes of their weekly show at a time. Regardless, Cody will need to defeat Willie Mack if he expects to be able to make it to his rematch with Aldis on October 21.

Cody won the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at the historic All In pay per view event on September 1. He and Aldis did battle in a great match that saw the Chicago crowd solidly behind Cody, as he managed to win the championship that his father had held decades earlier. Since the event, Aldis has defeated Doug Williams to secure his championship rematch that he requested to be held on the NWA‘s biggest show of the year.

Cody is currently set to compete at the next Ring of Honor pay-per-view Death Before Dishonor on September 28. He will lead the Bullet Club against Chaos, as he teams with Marty Scurll, Hangman Page and the Young Bucks to take on Rocky Romero, Tomohiro Ishii, Beretta, Chuckie T and Kazuchika Okada.

Okada will be making a very rare Ring of Honor appearance to compete in this match, marking the first time he will compete in ROH since the Death Before Dishonor television tapings in September of 2016.
