Former WWE star Jaxson Ryker has officially retired from in-ring competition at an independent wrestling show.
Ryker had announced plans to retire on a podcast appearance in May 2023 saying he had “gotten to a point to where I think I’m ready to press on into a new career.”
He signed with WWE in 2017 and would be released by the company in November 2021 after a number of controversies, returning to the independent scene as Gunner.
The controversies surrounding Ryker included pro-Trump comments in the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, public homophobic remarks and more.
He was said to have an “incredible” level of backstage heat.
He was initially part of the Forgotten Sons in WWE, but ended up in a tag team with Elias towards the end of his run.
The tag team split up and it looked like Ryker would be the one to get a push out of it, but he ended up being released instead.
Ryker officially retired at AML Wrestling on August 27, leaving his boots in the ring after his match.
