The first episode of AEW Dynamite in 2023 took place in the company’s debut in Seattle, and it was not without controversy.
Two championship matches were set for the show, the first being The Acclaimed defending the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal.
This match came after weeks of the two teams feuding, with a rap from the Acclaimed last week firing up real-life emotion from Jeff Jarrett’s wife.
The math took place, and in a very shocking outcome, Jeff Jarrett pinned Anthony Bowens with the Stroke.
Bowens got his foot on the ropes, before Sonjay Dutt knocked his foot off the rope and referee Stephon Smith counted the three, with Jarrett and Lethal believing themselves to be the new champions.
Aubrey Edwards then ran out to reverse the decision, restarting the match.
The actual result saw the Acclaimed retain their gold, with Bowens scoring the pinfall over Jay Lethal.
