Dakota Kai Reveals Scrapped Plans For WWE Main Roster Debut WWE

Dakota Kai has opened up about scrapped plans for her WWE main roster debut in 2021, ahead of her WWE release.

Kai was the first released WWE star to return to the company following Triple H taking over creative, with the star aligning herself with Damage CTRL at SummerSlam.

The current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion had been let go by WWE in April, along with a number of other stars.

Kai’s release was surprising as she had wrestled a number of dark matches on the main roster in the latter half of 2021, which is usually the sign of an imminent call-up.

Speaking on Out of Character, Dakota Kai revealed that she was originally told that she was going to be included in the 2021 WWE Draft.

Noting that she was never given a reason why she ultimately wasn’t called up during the draft, Kai said:

“That’s when I was like, ‘ok, maybe something is going to happen here.’ Yeah, I just ended up doing like about six or seven (dark matches), it was a lot, and they were back to back to back.

“I was told I was going to be in the Draft. It’s funny now that I look back at it, it’s all good, we can laugh at this. But I was sitting at home during the draft and I got told that it was going to happen and I’m like, ‘okay cool.’

“Then I didn’t hear anything. I was like, ‘oh, maybe they changed their minds, I don’t know,’ and then I kind of just went and continued to do NXT.

“It’s just very weird to be told something and then it didn’t happen, but I never got a reason why.”

Numerous former WWE stars have made returns under the Triple H regime, with Bray Wyatt making a surprise appearance at Extreme Rules, and Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson reuniting the OC with AJ Styles on the October 10 edition of WWE Raw.
