In an exclusive interview with WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor, Darby Allin opened up about how 2020 has been for him, noting that it’s been the best year of his career from a professional standpoint.
“It’s been the best year professionally by far. There’s no way you can top it…. The goal in 2021 is to main event a pay-per-view. It’s a goal for me. As for anything specific like a match, I’ll say give me anbody and I’ll make anything work.”
In 2020, Allin has been a regular fixture on AEW Dynamite, wrestling on every single one of the promotion’s PPVs, even defeating Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship at Full Gear last month:
Allin noted that while beating Cody Rhodes at Full Gear was a big moment for him, the interactions that he has had with Sting since the WCW icon’s debut earlier this month have been “just as big”:
“That was a huge moment, but something about the interactions with Sting are just as big, because this is writing history here. If this is the tail end of somebody’s career, and you have any hand in writing that story, it doesn’t get any bigger.”
Some have speculated that Sting and Darby Allin are going to team-up together, while others have speculated that the interactions are going to lead to a match between the two. Darby Allin said he’d be open to either:
“Wherever the wind takes me. Wherever the wind takes me”
Darby also said that his aim for 2021 is to main event a pay-per-view for AEW, and immediately selected Sting when asked who he would pick to be his opponent in the main event if he had the choice.
