Details On Untelevised Gable Steveson Segment At WWE Raw WWE

Over a week removed from his WWE in-ring debut at NXT Great American Bash, Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson featured in a non-televised segment at the August 7 Raw from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

While fan opinions weren’t overly positive on Steveson’s debut match against Baron Corbin and its double count-out finish, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Steveson showed up in his home state of Minnesota to a much more positive reaction.

Meltzer detailed the segment for his hometown crowd which involved the 23-year-old getting physical with WWE veteran Dolph Ziggler.

Meltzer said:

“He was on the show tonight, it was not on television, but he did a big angle with Dolph Ziggler.

“And because it was Minneapolis, he’s from Minneapolis, he was cheered like crazy. I heard one of the biggest pops of the entire show.

“Suplexed him around the ring when Dolph Ziggler was running down, basically saying that there’s no wrestling heroes in Minneapolis, and he came out and they went into it.”

Meltzer then discussed the latest on both Steveson’s WWE plans as well as his potential entry onto Team USA for the Wrestling World Championships, taking place in Belgrade, Serbia between September 16-24, saying:

I still don’t know if he’s doing the world championships or not, and nobody’s really talked about what they’re gonna do with him next for television, but he was on the show tonight.

“That doesn’t mean he’s not training right now for the worlds. If he’s training in Minneapolis then he’s there.”

Despite obvious comparisons to Kurt Angle due to their shared Olympic glory, WWE NXT commentator Booker T, who called Steveson’s debut match, has refuted the comparisons largely due to Steveson’s noncommittal approach to WWE thus far.

Booker also discussed the impact this would have on Steveson’s acceptance from the WWE fans, especially following the extremely frosty fan reception he received during his debut match.
