Dolph Ziggler To Wrestle Legend At SummerSlam?

Dolph Ziggler To Wrestle Legend At SummerSlam?

According to the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dolph Ziggler will be wrestling at SummerSlam but not against The Miz or Shawn Michaels.

Ziggler has been feuding with The Miz recently and there were plans at one point for a Miz-Ziggler match to be the direction for the pay-per-view.

However, those plans have since been scrapped and Ziggler will be wrestling in a different match on the show.

The angle this past week on SmackDown that saw Ziggler superkick Shawn Michaels during MizTV seemed to hint at Ziggler vs. Michaels as a direction, but evidently that is not the plan either.

Michaels at this point has no plans to return to the ring, having previously admitted that his comeback at Crown Jewel last year was a mistake from basically the moment it was over.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, there is talk doing the rounds – which was mentioned as a possibility by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live – that Ziggler’s SummerSlam opponent could be Bill Goldberg.

With Trish Stratus already confirmed to be coming out of retirement at SummerSlam to face Charlotte Flair, could Goldberg be another legend added to the show?

Ziggler has twice mentioned Goldberg on television recently, calling his own comeback at Super Showdown an “embarrassment”.

Since his WWE return in June, Ziggler has won just once (against Xavier Woods on SmackDown) and in his last major outing he was demolished by Kevin Owens at Extreme Rules in mere seconds.

This sort of booking has all the hallmarks of WWE burying someone on the way out and a quick-fire defeat to an ageing legend would certainly fall under that category.
