El Grande Americano became the new AAA Mega Champion by defeating Dominik Mysterio at tonight’s WWE AAA TripleMania 34 event.
After Chad Gable went down with an injury in the Summer of 2025, the El Grande Americano character continued on with a new wrestler under the mask, and the character going in a much different direction than it had with Gable portraying El Grande.
Appearing for AAA, the new version of El Grande Americano, played by Ludwig Kaiser, was a beloved fan favourite in Mexico, with Chad Gable being heavily booed in Mexico in favour of Kaiser’s portrayal of the character, despite the roles being reversed on the main roster.
At Noche de los Grandes, El Grande Americano would defeat the Original El Grande Americano in an instant classic mask vs. mask match, with the original unmasking and returning to being Chad Gable, while El Grande set his sights on even higher goals.
El Grande Americano wins AAA Mega Championship at TripleMania 34
Namely, after winning the Rey de Reyes, El Grande turned his attention to becoming AAA Mega Champion, the title that Dominik Mysterio has held for the past year.
The match between Dominik and El Grande Americano was made official for night two of AAA TripleMania 34 in Mexico City that took place tonight, with El Grande Americano defeating Dominik to become the new AAA Mega Champion.
Despite JD McDonagh and Liv Morgan trying to help Mysterio, Grande managed to score the win with AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio coming out to count the pin after the referee had been taken out.
El Grande is the third person to hold the AAA Mega Championship under the WWE umbrella, with the first being El Hijo del Vikingo, who lost it at last year’s TripleMania to Dominik Mysterio.
Dominik Mysterio’s future following AAA Mega Championship loss
With Dominik Mysterio no longer the AAA Mega Champion, we may see less of him on AAA going forward.
However, Omos defeated Rey Mysterio on night one of TripleMania on Friday to be reinstated by the promotion after he was suspended, with Omos and Dominik being members of El Ojo together with Dorian Roldan.
With Omos back in AAA, it seems as though we will still be seeing more of Dominik in AAA, as it doesn’t look as though Omos would be appearing on Raw in the near future.
It was recently reported that Dominik was frustrated with the differences between his main roster and AAA booking, so it seems as though he will want to remain in AAA for longer after his defeat tonight.
