El Hijo del Vikingo captured the AAA Latin American Championship on night one of AAA’s Noche de los Grandes event tonight.

Tonight’s AAA Noche de los Grandes event kicked off in a big way, with Rey Fenix defeating Laredo Kid to win the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship, his first championship in WWE.

However, the title changes didn’t stop with the opening match, with two more title changes taking place after.

El Hijo Del Vikingo Wins AAA Latin American Championship

The second match of the show saw El Hijo del Vikingo challenge El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr for the AAA Latin American Championship.

Vikingo has found himself becoming one of the top heels of AAA since WWE purchased the promotion, with him now seeking help from Dorian Roldan and Omos of El Ojo in his pursuit of championship gold.

With Vikingo no longer able to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship, he set his sights on the Latin American Championship.

Vikingo would end up winning a chaotic match to capture the Latin American Championship, regaining gold in AAA.

The War Raiders Win AAA Tag Team Championship

The third match on the show saw WWE Raw’s Erik and Ivar of the War Raiders challenge Pagano and Psycho Clown for the AAA Tag Team Championship.

In recent weeks there has been tensions with Pagano and Psycho Clown, and those tensions came to a head tonight.

The War Raiders would pick up the win after miscommunication from Pagano and Psycho Clown, with tensions escalating after their loss.

Erik and Ivar would continue the attack on Psycho Clown, with Pagano walking out on his partner.

WWE AAA Has Been A Success Under The Undertaker

Questions were rightfully asked when it was revealed that the man in charge of the AAA brand was The Undertaker.

Taker is someone who has very publicly spoken about his views on modern wrestling, and a lot of those views have seemed to contradict the lucha libre style.

However, things couldn’t have gone much better, as he’s clearly put his personal feelings aside and is doing the right thing which is giving AAA fans what they want to see.

The in-ring action in AAA is far more exciting than that on the WWE main roster, so there don’t seem to be too many shackles being put on in that regard, and the shows as a whole just feel much more alive.

Some of the ringside brawls, promos and other segments just come off so much better on AAA TV than they do on the WWE main roster, because they’re not being overly micro-produced, and talent seems to have the ability and the trust of Undertaker to just go and do their thing.

Hopefully there isn’t a gradual move to the WWE main roster style and this in-house AAA styles stays around, and we could end up with a situation similar to black and gold NXT in the late 2010s.
