Real Reason WWE Legend William Regal’s Son Charlie Dempsey Doesn’t Use Regal Surname, ‘He Wanted To Earn His Own Way’

WWE Legend William Regal has explained why his son NXT star Charlie Dempsey doesn’t use the Regal surname.

A number of WWE and NXT stars have come through who haven’t used their family’s name, with Dempsey one of the biggest examples given the legendary status of his father William Regal.

Especially now that Dempsey is in NXT’s Birthright faction – which means the entire calling card is being multi-generation wrestlers – fans have questioned why he doesn’t use the Regal name.

Now, William Regal himself has explained the reason on social media, writing:

My lad @SirCharles_WWE hasn’t used his real name, which is Regal, as he wanted to earn his own way in this and for the last 10 years has done more than that. Very proud of him.

Explaining how Regal is Dempsey’s real name, William Regal noted that he jokingly suggested it for his middle name, to later find out that Dempsey’s mother had actually done it. He wrote:

And I promise, this is the last thing. When our Charlie was born, as I was leaving the hospital in Atlanta, my wife asked me what we should use for his middle name.

I jokingly said Regal as that’s what’s paid for for everything. I came back the next day to find his middle name is Regal. Poor lad.

Charlie Dempsey’s Potential In WWE

While some fans have claimed there’s a ceiling for Charlie Dempsey in WWE due to him not having the supposed WWE-typical physique or in-ring style, there is one big argument that, and that argument’s name is GUNTHER.

GUNTHER is someone who also doesn’t possess those features, yet he’s been positioned as one of the biggest heels in the company and the man who ended the careers of Goldberg, AJ Styles and John Cena.

The fact he doesn’t fit the ‘typical’ WWE trends is exactly what’s got him to this point, and the exact same could end up being the case for Dempsey.
