House of Glory
Former WWE star Charlie (Dakota Kai) says that a new ring name is ‘under construction’ after fans told her she needs a last name.
Former WWE star Dakota Kai competed in her first match in almost a year back in March, where she faced off against AEW’s Kris Statlander at the Pro Wrestling EVE Wrestle Queendom VIII show.
Dakota competed under the ring name Charlie, and has competed in two matches under that ring name, with her second being a House of Glory Women’s Championship match against Shotzi Blackheart over WrestleMania 42 weekend.
Dakota Kai (Charlie) Says New Ring Name Is ‘Under Construction’
Speaking to Ring The Belle, Charlie mentioned that she hears people say that she needs to add a last name to her ring name, and was in agreement.
She also noted that a new name is ‘under construction’.
She said:
“I keep hearing people say I need to add a last name because Charlie by itself – and I agree, but I can’t just be like ‘ok, I’m Charlie… Brooks!’
“So yeah, I hear you and understand that by itself it sounds very meh. It is my actual nickname, you know what I mean.
“It is under construction, we’ll get back to it.”

Former WWE Stars Finding New Identities Following Departure
With WWE often trademarking every new star’s ring name, most former WWE stars that depart the company find themselves undergoing a change in identity outside of the company.
While there are some names who managed to keep their outside name in WWE, such as the recently departed Tommaso Ciampa, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, other names return to ring names they used outside the company prior to signing and having their name changed, such as the recently released Alba Fyre and Nikki Cross, who have already rebranded back to their names Kay Lee Ray and Nikki Storm respectively.
Changing identity outside of WWE comes with both pros and cons, as keeping your own name and license will immediately make your name more recognisable on a marquee for independent appearances.
However, having the ability to rename yourself outside of WWE also has it’s pros, as it can give talent a clean slate to create their new character in their own image, as well as get the ‘ex-WWE’ stink off them that often carries a released WWE star.
