Former WWE star Indi Hartwell has opened up on why she believes fans are so connected to her InDex story with Dexter Lumis.

Dexter Lumis and the rest of the Wyatt Sicks were released from WWE last month, and he wasted no time on reuniting with his former ‘wife’ Indi Hartwell.

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis were part of a love story on WWE NXT television back in 2021, with their wedding taking place on the inaugural episode of NXT 2.0 in September of that year.

Indi Hartwell Reflects On Reaction To InDex Reunion

Dexter and Indi shared a reunion video following Dexter’s release, which showed Dexter cutting off his dreadlocks and shedding his old character.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Indi reflected on the reaction to the reunion video, and how her and Dexter (Samuel Shaw) filmed it in Orlando with a videographer.

She said:

“I kept some of (Dexter’s dreads) as a memento. Honestly, I personally didn’t expect the reaction to be that good. The video got a lot of traction, we filmed it with this guy here in Orlando called Harry who’s an amazing photographer and videographer.

“Dexter, I should call him Sam, Sam and I were thinking ‘shall we film this ourselves or should we get someone to film it’. I’m so glad we got Harry to film it because the way he did it and edited it, it came off so cool, it’s like a perfect way to show Sam saying goodbye to that old character and going back to his roots.

“I think the video came out amazing, I’m so proud of it, so proud of him, and I’m just grateful that a lot of people loved it.”

Indi Hartwell Says Fans Were Connected To InDex Because Of Relatability

Indi was then asked why she believes fans are so connected to InDex, with her believing it’s due to the relatability of falling in love.

She said:

“Honestly, I don’t know, I just feel so grateful that I’m a part, or was, still am, a part of something that people gravitated towards so much, and I think it’s because in wrestling, there are a lot of things fans can’t relate to.

“Fans can’t relate to having a match or winning a title, but they can relate to someone falling in love or chasing someone in pursuit of love.

“The story there was Indi was after Dexter, but her family, Candice, Johnny, were keeping her away from that, but it’s just showing perseverance and that the perseverance pays off, you can get the guy.

“Tommy Dreamer always tells me it was very endearing, I think people were drawn to it because I was very endearing as this lovesick lovable girl going for this weird creepy serial killer, stalker.

“I guess, for wrestling, it was still larger than life because it’s still kind of weird, this young innocent girl going for this creepy guy, but like I said, it’s relatable.

“So I think fans were just drawn to it because it’s something they can experience in their real life rather than winning titles and wrestling at WrestleMania, that’s the thing that separates the wrestler from the wrestling fan, but that was able to kind of bring them into it.”
