There is reportedly “significant excitement” within WWE for tonight’s AAA Noche de Los Grandes 2026 event.
Headlined by the much anticipated Mask vs. Mask match between El Grande Americano & “Original” El Grande Americano, tonight’s AAA Noche de Los Grandes event looks set to be one of the Mexican promotion’s biggest events of the year.
The feud between the two El Grande Americanos has been one of WWE’s most well built rivalries of the year, and the excitement surrounding the match is all the more impressive given that neither men under the mask are luchadors or Mexican (Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser).
While the character was initially introduced for Chad Gable, it has been Ludwig Kaiser that has taken it to new heights and embraced Mexican culture and the AAA fans wholeheartedly – which has in turn made him the favorite to win tonight’s Mask vs. Mask Match in the eyes of many fans.
Ahead of Noche de Los Grandes, WrestleVotes sent out a tweet commenting on how much Kaiser has relished his time in the role, and revealed that their is “significant excitement” for tonight’s event.
WrestleVotes writes:
In speaking with a source in town for tonight’s Noche de Los Grandes event, it’s evident how much Ludwig Kaiser is relishing this moment. Credit to him, as this character was never originally designed with him in mind. He’s seized the opportunity and made it his own, earning the appreciation of the loyal crowd in Mexico along the way.
We’re told there’s significant excitement within the company surrounding tonight’s event.
As well as the Mask vs. Mask main event, AAA Noche de Los Grandes will feature three big championship matches, two of which feature WWE stars.
Former WWE World Tag Team Champions The War Raiders will look to add another accolade to their names when they challenge Pagano & Psycho Clown for the AAA Tag Team Championships, while SmackDown’s Rey Fenix will challenge Laredo Kid for the AAA World Cruiserweight Title.
Elsewhere, AAA Latin Americano Champion El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. will defend his title against El Hijo del Vikingo.
What Next For Chad Gable If He Does Lose El Grande Americano Mask?
The success of Ludwig Kaiser’s time under the El Grande Americano mask has made it almost impossible to imagine a scenario where he doesn’t play the role going forward.
For Chad Gable however, as much as he has always brought humor and entertainment to the role, most would be keen to see him play himself on WWE TV again for the first time in a year.
In 2024, during his Intercontinental Championship feud with Sami Zayn, it seemed as Gable was on the verge of breaking out as major singles star and perhaps finally winning his first singles title in the company.
While that didn’t happen, he’s in the best shape of his life and WWE should avoid letting the Olympian simply slip into the mid-card if he loses his mask.
Whether it be rebuilding a more serious version of American Made, rebuilding Alpha Academy, or going solo, WWE should be giving Gable a big push heading into the Summer.
