Tonight’s WWE Raw saw the start of the King of the Ring tournament, and we had two first round matches on the show.
In the first, Samoa Joe advanced by picking up the win in a really good match against Cesaro. Cesaro took most of the match but Joe caught him in mid-air into the Coquina for the win.

Later in the show, Cedric Alexander picked up a very convincing win against Sami Zayn to advance.
Joe will face either Drew McIntyre or Ricochet, and Alexander will face either The Miz or Baron Corbin in the quarter-finals. Those two Round 1 matches will take place next week.
On the SmackDown side, we’ve got two Round 1 matches tomorrow with Kevin Owens vs. Elias and Andrade vs. Apollo Crews. Next week for the blue brand will be Chad Gable vs. Shelton Benjamin and Buddy Murphy vs. Ali.
The semi-finals for both brands will be held at their respective MSG shows on September 9 and 10, and then the final at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view that following Sunday.
