Retired former British Lightweight Wrestling Champion Jim Breaks has been charged with the 2017 murder of his ex-girlfriend Donna Cowley.
Prosecutors are calling for Breaks, who is currently 80 years old, to be given a 15-year prison sentence for the alleged murder.
It is alleged that Cowley died after being punched in the face and hit over the head with a cup during a fight with Breaks.
It is reported that Cowley called the emergency services following the incident, but passed away a day later in hospital. Prosecutors allege that Breaks abandoned Cowley in a bathroom while on holiday in Puerto Rico.
It has been reported that Breaks admitted to assaulting Cowley while being quizzed in court, but there has been no indication of how he will plead going forward.
During his long wrestling career, Breaks was known as ‘Cry Baby’ and held the British Lightweight Championship between 1963 and 1967. He would go on to appear on ITV and hold the previosuly mentioned belt 9 times in his career.
