An update has emerged on WWE plans for the new ‘WWE Speed’ wrestling show following the recent taping.
WWE appeared to introduce an interesting brand at the December 15 SmackDown taping, with ‘dark’ matches ahead of the live show taking place with ‘WWE Speed’ logos on the ring, and five minute timers counting down during the bout.
With it reported that these matches were filmed, and Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick were on commentary, it has been speculated that WWE will soon launch WWE Speed as a completely new show.
Per Corey Brennan on Fightful Select, many who were wrestling at the SmackDown taping didn’t know about WWE Speed until shortly before the show.
The report noted that the current plan is for the show to run on social media platforms if they do launch it, rather than on the WWE Network or on TV.
WWE previously filed to trademark the term ‘WWE Speed’, which you can read more about right here.
During the December 15 Speed tapings, NXT star Nathan Frazer faced off against Raw star Bronson Reed.
NXT’s Axiom also went one-on-one with Cedric Alexander, who’s currently billed as a WWE free agent.
