A former WWE star made a surprise appearance on tonight’s March 30 episode of AEW Collision against Adam Copeland.
After he won the TNT Championship from Christian Cage on Dynamite last week, Copeland issued an open challenge for the title tonight.
The challenge was answered by Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE.
Cardona isn’t on the AEW roster and before tonight had only ever had two matches for the company, which were both in 2020.
There is of course a backstory with Copeland and Cardona, as Cardona, when he was Zack Ryder, was one of Copeland’s ‘Edgeheads’ alongside Brian Myers/Curt Hawkins starting back in 2007.
As expected, Adam Copeland did score the win and retained the TNT Championship tonight. After the match, Copeland was attacked by Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews, but Mark Briscoe and Eddie Kingston made the save.
