A WWE Hall of Famer and former producer has recalled the heat between John Cena and Alex Riley that seemingly led to the demise of Riley’s career.
Back around 10 years ago, it seemed like Riley was on the verge of breaking out as a top babyface star after splitting from The Miz, but soon enough he was way down the card and vanished into obscurity.
This has been attributed to apparent heat between him and top dog at the time John Cena, and Arn Anderson recalled their issues on his latest podcast, saying:
“I think Alex had a good look. I think his work was okay. He seemed to gel well when they put him with The Miz. But there’s a famous story that he was offered some help from John Cena and he seemed less than enthused or interested which would have immediately made it’s way back to the locker room and to the office. I’m sure it was around that time that his water got cut off.”
As times passed and it became evident he was never really going to get the push it once looked like he would, Riley eventually found himself as a commentator then back in developmental and was released in 2016.
