Former WWE Star Chris Jericho Says If It Wasn’t For Him There Would Be No AEW

Former WWE Champion and current AEW star Chris Jericho has made some pretty bold claims throughout his storied wrestling career. However, he might have topped the lot today with a comment he made when speaking to AEW’s Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes as part of the Road to Double or Nothing YouTube series.

Jericho, who is set to face Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on June, 9 for NJPW said that AEW only started to be taken seriously once he signed with the company. Y2J also made it clear that he won’t be treated the same way by AEW and Cody as he was by Rhodes’ father Dusty in WCW.

“I see the American Dream Dusty Rhodes right there. 1998, Rapids City, South Dakota. He told me he was going to stick a rocket on my back and shoot me to the moon. Never happened, he lied to me, and you’re lying to me too. But don’t forget this, if it wasn’t for me, there would be no AEW.”

Chris made the bold claim that if it weren’t for him, “there would be no AEW”. This probably isn’t true, but Chris certainly has a huge part to play at All Elite Wrestling’s first proper show, Double or Nothing on May 25, where he is set to face Kenny Omega in the show’s main event.
It was announced today that Double or Nothing will be broadcast live on ITV. This is huge for AEW, as ITV is the UK’s second biggest channel.
