Former WWE Star Vowed To Be Champion After Signing First Contract

A former Women’s Champion has stated that as soon as she signed her WWE contract, she knew she’d be a champion one day.

Candice Michelle had high ambitions upon arrival at the WWE. Originally auditioning for Raw’s Diva Search in 2004, Michelle became a star, becoming the first woman found through the search to win the Women’s Championship.

According to Michelle, she was always destined for gold. In an interview with Wrestling Inc, Michelle noted that as early as signing her WWE contract, she was determined to win the Women’s Championship.

She noted that she had a very athletic background, making her eventual audition for WWE feel like she was coming “full circle”.

Here is the full quote:

“I was like, ‘How did this come full circle for me to actually have this audition,’ and when I got this contract, I knew that I was going to be the next Women’s Champion. They had no idea. They were like, ‘Put on some lingerie, do all the pillow fights and all that stuff,’ but what people didn’t see is I would show up to every house show two hours early.

“I would watch them put the ring up. I would get in the ring with them. I didn’t have the opportunity to go to wrestling school and learn wrestling moves. I had to learn everything on the road, and so the only way I thought that I could learn was if I show up early. And then people started to see that I was really putting in the work.”

Michelle also recalled feeling like she had to work harder because she didn’t have a wrestling background. Noting that her signing rubbed some of the locker room up the wrong way, she stated:

“I definitely took heat coming into the business, but that was mostly because I didn’t come up in the indie scene, or the wrestling school or do the work that way, my work was coming up in Hollywood and doing it a different way, and that was kind of frowned on by other people.”

Candice Michelle returned to WWE for the Raw Reunion in 2019, where she pinned Kelly Kelly to win the 24/7 Championship, before losing the title on the same night to Alundra Blayze.
