Former WWE Name Reveals Talks With AEW WWE/AEW

A former WWE name, currently working at IMPACT Wrestling, has revealed that they have had “informal” talks with AEW about a potential move to the company.

Josh Mathews, who is best known for his 13-year stint in WWE between 2001 and 2014, recently appeared on Road Dogg Brian James’ ‘Oh… You Didn’t Know’ podcast, discussing his future in IMPACT, who he has worked with since his WWE departure.

While Mathews said he would be happy to retire in IMPACT, he did reveal that he had held informal talks with AEW, the company in which his wife Madison Rayne works, predominantly for the Ring of Honor brand as a coach as well as an in-ring performer.

Mathew’s discussed the AEW talks and both he and Rayne’s current schedules, saying:

“Informally (there have been talks with AEW). I think what they’re doing is great. I should start by saying I love IMPACT and if they’ll have me, I’ll stay for the rest of my career and it’s funny because with our (Josh & Madison Rayne) schedules because she’s on the Wednesday show and so, I just don’t know. It really is (a perfect schedule).”

While Mathews is seemingly content in IMPACT, he is greatly enjoying seeing his wife get the opportunities she does in AEW, revealing that Rayne produced the well-received main event bout of ROH’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view between Athena and Willow Nightingale.

Mathews said:

“It’s also nice to watch her (Madison Rayne), because for 13 or however many years she’s been doing this, she never made it to that point, to the live TV every week and she coached the main event of the Ring of Honor pay-per-view (Death Before Dishonor) so to have her come back and talk about that and the live aspect of it, yeah, it really is (cool).”

Mathews and IMPACT Wrestling are set to celebrate a significant milestone in September with the 1000th episode of the show set to broadcast.

The promotion has already begun making major announcements for the landmark show, with three legends of the TNA era set to make their IMPACT return – click here for full details.
