Former WWE Women’s Champion To Be ‘Signature Star’ For New All-Women’s Promotion

Former WWE Women’s Champion To Be ‘Signature Star’ For New All-Women’s Promotion WWE

An update has emerged on plans for a new all-women’s TV promotion, with a former WWF (WWE) Women’s Champion attached to the project.

With reports indicating that a new all-women’s wrestling company is in the works, Dave Meltzer shared what he knew about the new promotion on Wrestling Observer Radio.

After stating that he knows individuals who have been in talks with the new promotion, Meltzer stated that there will be a strong Japanese presence on the shows.

Stating that Bull Nakano will be a signature star of the promotion, Meltzer wrote:

“They’re making moves, they’re making calls.

“The idea is an all-women’s promotion that would be on TV (something like) Women of Wrestling but not, in the sense that they want the wrestling to be of much higher quality than Women of Wrestling and they’re going to bring in women from Japan. I do not believe anyone from STARDOM will be there.

“Bull Nakano is going to be one of the big vocal stars of the promotion. Not wrestling, she has not wrestled in 25 years, but they want her to be one of the signature stars.

“I know they’ve worked on getting all the paperwork together to bring all these women in. I’m not sure exactly which Japanese women will be there, but I think that’s all probably going to be coming out, I think sooner than later.”

Bull Nakano wrestled for a number of notable promotions including AJPW, and WWE (then WWF), where she won the WWF Women’s Championship from Alundra Blayze in November 1994.

PWInsider previously reported that the new promotion, set to have an authentic Joshi feel, will be launching in September with a show in New York City.

Per PWInsider, who also confirmed that Bull Nakano will be part of this project, numerous wrestlers involved were signed to contracts for the promotion earlier this year.

We will continue to provide updates on the new promotion as they become available.
