A hilarious name for a current AEW star was revealed during the taping for the June 16 edition of Rampage.
Following Wednesday’s (June 14) edition of Dynamite, AEW taped matches and segments for this week’s episode of Rampage, which will air on Friday.
Konosuke Takeshita was in action during the taping, against Bandido.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Takeshita was introduced as ‘El Hijo Del Don Callis’.
The ‘El Hijo Del’ part translates to ‘son of’ in Spanish, this moniker would mean ‘son of Don Callis’.
While it wasn’t specified whether or not this name change will be permanent or official, many fans are expecting it only to be used for this match against Bandido.
It’s common for multi-generation luchadors to include ‘El Hijo Del’ in their ring names to pay homage to their famous parents.
It is always possible that this name will stick depending on the reaction, like when Billy Gunn became ‘Daddy Ass’ during his storyline with the Gunns and the Acclaimed.
Takeshita officially aligned himself with Don Callis at Double or Nothing, after attacking Kenny Omega in the final moments of the Anarchy in the Arena match.
Omega was attacked in the closing moments of this week’s edition of Dynamite, with Will Ospreay dropping the IWGP US Champion ahead of their title match at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2023.
