A new report has revealed injured WWE star Charlotte Flair was originally planned for a role in a WrestleMania 40 storyline.
As previously reported, backstage news revealed how Mercedes Mone signing with WWE could have potentially altered creative plans for the road to WrestleMania 40. While Mone was in talks with WWE at the end of 2023, it seems a discussion about advanced creative pitches never occurred.
Mercedes Mone’s real life best friend and WWE in-ring rival Bayley is currently set to challenge IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship on WrestleMania Sunday.
Bayley’s current storyline with Damage CTRL led many fans to believe Mone would have come to her aid if she had re-signed with the company, but it seems WWE had other plans.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that the original working idea for the feud was for Charlotte Flair to eventually come to the aid of Bayley against Damage CTRL.
However, Flair’s torn ACL injury in December 2023 changed the working plan to what has transpired.
It remains to be seen when Charlotte Flair will return to in-ring action at the time of this writing.
WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on Charlotte Flair’s status when they become available.
