Japanese wrestler Atsushi Aoki passed away on Monday (June 3) after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Tokyo, Japan.
According to NJPW commentator Chris Charlton, Aoki was making a turn in a tunnel when he struck the tunnel wall.
Aoki is the reigning AJPW (All Japan Pro Wrestling) Champion, having won the belt just two weeks ago. He was scheduled to defend the belt on June 18 against Hikaru Sato.
Aoki was a true All Japan legend, having won the belt on four separate occasions, more than any other wrestler in the company’s history.
Everyone at WrestleTalk would like to extend our sympathies and condolences to Aoki’s family and friends, and thank him for his service to the industry we all love.
It is with great sadness we confirm Atsushi Aoki has passed away. Thank you for everything. May you rest in peace. ? pic.twitter.com/GmMGpK4sMT
