A top AEW name has discussed the additions of Nigel McGuinness and Ian Riccaboni to the commentary team.
Ahead of the premiere of AEW Collision, All Elite Wrestling announced the new commentary team for the show would be NJPW lead commentator Kevin Kelly and former ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness along with Jim Ross joining them for the main events.
During this year’s G1 Climax 33 tournament, Kelly was off of AEW programming and ROH lead commentator Ian Riccaboni took his role on Collision.
On the latest episode of the Grilling JR podcast, Ross praised Ian Riccaboni and Nigel McGuinness. He said:
“Ian does a great job, no matter what show he’s doing. Kevin Kelly is back now doing Collision with Nigel.”
“Nigel does a super job, too. Very conscientious. Works hard preparing. Does a good job.”
Praising McGuinness even more as a great get for Tony Khan, JR said:
“Nigel’s a great get for Tony Khan. Does a good job. We all dress in the same room, and Nigel’s diligent on his note taking. He reminds me of me, in that regard.”
“Sometimes, you can take that shit too far. Nigel doesn’t, but he works hard at understanding the reason for a match and tells a beautiful story.”
Reiterating his appreciation for Riccaboni’s work, Ross said:
“We were back together with Kevin Kelly and Nigel, and that’s always fun. I was very impressed with Ian Riccaboni. Really good young announcer.”
