Backstage details have emerged on the creative decision to pull the trigger on a recent surprise WWE return.
This week’s (October 2) edition of Raw featured the long-awaited reunion of DIY, with Johnny Gargano returned to WWE TV for the first time since May.
Making the save for Tommaso Ciampa during an attack by the Imperium faction, Gargano helped to fend off the attackers before the two friends embraced in the ring.
While fans and even Ciampa himself had been lobbying for this reunion for quite some time, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider this angle was a ‘late WWE Creative decision’.
Plans for the segment were reportedly only locked in towards the end of this past weekend, ahead of Monday’s show.
Gargano travelled to San Jose for Raw early on Monday and was kept hidden ahead of the show.
Prior to his return to TV on Raw, Gargano returned to the house show circuit in early September. Since returning, he has wrestled two live event matches against Omos.
