Johnny Gargano’s return on the August 22 edition of WWE Raw has indicated that a recent Vince McMahon edict has been nixed.
During the show, Gargano made a surprise appearance, cutting a passionate promo before dropping Theory with a superkick.
Fightful Select previously reported that only a few names were aware of plans for Gargano’s appearance.
Per PWInsider, a lot of individuals within WWE indicated that Gargano being brought back without a name change seems to be a sign that Vince McMahon’s recent name change edict is no longer in effect.
It was reported in April that talent had been informed that Vince McMahon didn’t want performers using their full real names, or names used prior to signing with WWE.
This is why Pete Dunne became Butch, Raquel Gonzalez became Raquel Rodriguez, and so on.
Doudrop (fka Piper Niven, Viper) has confirmed there has been talks about a possible name change with the new regime, following Triple H taking over WWE creative.
Gargano has opened up about his WWE return, which you can read about right here.
