Kenny Omega Addresses AEW Fight Forever Roster Omissions AEW/THQ

All Elite Wrestling is set to release their debut console game, AEW: Fight Forever, soon, with the company still hoping for a 2022 release date for the game.

The game is a throwback to the old school wrestling games of the Nintendo 64 era, and has already won awards, being named the best sports/racing game at Gamescom in Germany last week.

However, the main issue with the game has been the notable omissions from the roster. It was revealed last week the Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR would be missing from the in-game roster, and they’re far from the only ones.

Kenny Omega recently spoke to Sports Illustrated, where he spoke about the upcoming game, and it’s roster omissions.

Kenny said that the roster is set to feature familiar faces from the early days of AEW, and that there were limited slots for ‘special cases’ like Adam Cole and CM Punk.

He said:

“The one detriment to that is we live in an ever-evolving sport in pro wrestling. That pertains to the craft itself, and our roster is also ever-changing. The more time passes by, we may see a new face that people are going to be upset isn’t going to be in the game. Our roster on release was almost etched in stone, and we had very limited slots for very special cases, like Adam Cole and CM Punk. Generally speaking, you’re going to see a lot of familiar faces from the early years of AEW, many of whom are still here today. Having that original, year-one roster is important to us. We’re trying to retell that story of how we came into existence.

Omega continued on, noting that it’ll be hard to add anyone new to the roster this close to release, joking that even if John Cena walked out onto Dynamite, he wouldn’t be added to the game on time.

He said:

“Now that our game is pretty much wrapped, between now and the release, it will be hard to include anyone new. Even if John Cena walked through the tunnel and down the stage, we probably wouldn’t be able to get him in on time. That is why we’re doing post-launch support. It was never the game plan to purposely hold back, but it’s to make sure fans can be a certain wrestler, then they’ll be available as soon as possible.”
