Kenny Omega’s run in New Japan Pro Wrestling was a truly historic one. His 2017, in particular, featured a number of classic matches with the likes of Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito. Now, Omega has revealed that he needed knee surgery during one of his best matches.
The G1 Climax 27 Final saw Omega take on Naito. The G1 Climax is a grueling tournament, lasting a month with some of the most difficult matches of the year. Making it to the final is extremely difficult but even more so if you require knee surgery. Such was the case for Omega as he recently revealed on Twitter.
I needed knee surgery and had terrible vertigo since the Okada match the night before. Prayed to anyone willing to listen and somehow got through it. Very proud of this performance. Maybe the right man won. https://t.co/zHokrBjSFy

The match was an absolute classic, earning a 5.75 star rating from Dave Meltzer. Naito would ultimately win the match and the tournament before going on to face Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 12 months later.
Meanwhile, Omega would get his knee repaired but would only take two weeks to recover. Upon his return, he defended his IWGP United States Championship against Juice Robinson at Destruction in Kobe.
