AEW TBS Champion Kris Statlander has explained why she does sign language during her appearances on TV.
Statlander made an immediate impact upon her return to the ring earlier this year, defeating the previously-undefeated Jade Cargill for the TBS Title at Double or Nothing in May.
During her AEW appearances, Statlander often uses sign language to communicate certain phrases on TV.
During a High Spots Sign It Live session, Statlander revealed that she chose to integrate sign language into her act to be unique, and that she isn’t doing it to pay tribute to anyone in particular.
She said:
“There is not a story. I just thought it would be cool and different. I’m not fluent in it, but I do know some basic sentences and stuff.
“I just thought it would be something different and you don’t see it often. That’s really all there is to it.
“I don’t know anyone that is deaf. I didn’t really have a reason to learn it.”
Statlander most recently defended her TBS Championship against Marina Shafir on Friday’s edition of Rampage.
